A Valentine for You, Son

I remember when you were so tiny
that I could cradle you in my arms
and watch you sleep -
so oblivious to the world.
When you awoke, you'd smile at me
and curl all of your fingers
around one of mine,
and hold on so very tightly
that I thought you'd never let go.
Those same precious fingers
wound themselves around
my heart, too...
and to this day,
they have never let go.

Hi Tony,

My name is Maria Hooley, (formerly Erman) and I was surprised when I did a search and found a greeting card poem I'd sold to Blue Mountain Arts (BMA) on your page. I run a search from time to time because different on-line magazines publish some of my poetry. I just thought it was cool and really flattering.

I actually wrote the poem for my son. I tend to write a lot of things for both of my kids, as well as some of the students I teach. I tend to think BMA cards are a lot better written than others because there is a feeling of truth to the emotion.

A lot of the stuff you have on your site is really cool.

Take care,
Maria Hooley
