Cooking Instructions

Skillet Cooking:

Place sausage links in skillet with 1/4" to 1/2" of water. Cook covered for approximately 15 minutes. Remove cover and allow remaining water to cook off. Finish by browning in skillet.

BBQ Or Grill:

Place sausage links on grill or grate. Cook over low heat (gas BBQ) or furthest from coals (standard coal BBQ). Approximate cooking time 15 minutes.

Recipe Ideas

Italian Sausage Sandwich:

Try this next time you're thinking hot dog. Cook sausage in skillet or grill (as described above). Place one link in hot dog bun or soft sandwich roll (open face). Cover with your favorite spaghetti sauce and garnish with grated mozzarella cheese. Heat sandwich 15-20 sec. in microwave or 5 min. in conventional oven.

Italian Casserole:

  • 1 package (10 ounces) frozen lima beans
  • 3 cans (about 1 pound 3 ounces each) baked beans
  • 3 cans (about 15 1/2 ounces each) kidney beans
  • 1 pound Villa Roma Italian Sausages
  • 1/2 pound cooked ham (1/2" Cubed)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped (about 1/2 cup) sauteed
  • 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup catsup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/4 cup red wine (optional)

Heat oven to 400°. Cook lima bean as directed on package; drain. Pour into ungreased 4 1/2 quart bean pot or casserole dish. Add baked beans, kidney beans, and remaining ingredients listed above. In covered skillet, simmer sausages until brown on all sides. (Do no prick sausages.) Cut each sausage into 2 or 3 pieces. Add sausage pieces and ham to beans and gently mix. Bake uncovered 1 hour. 10 to 12 servings.

Note:

The sausage casing may be slit and removed. The sausage can be formed into patties, cooked and browned in a skillet then crumbled.

Remember:

Use Villa Roma Italian Sausage with casing removed in place of ground beef for an exciting Italian flavor in spaghetti sauce and lasagna.

Each link is four ounces with four links per pound.

Packaged means packaged for shipping or air travel. Each pound is placed in a plastic bag and wrapped with deli/freezer paper. It is frozen then placed in a box that is newspaper lined. Scimes likes two day notice to properly freeze the sausage.

We ordered on Wednesday, picked up and shipped FedEx Overnight (10:30 am delivery), and the sausage arrived cold with the sausage near the center of the box still semi-frozen. I believe it we gave two day notice, the sausage would have been more frozen, and would have been frozen on arrival.
