How to Sort the Programs Menu by Name

Are you tied of searching through your list of programs looking for that one program you use occasionally. Wish you could sort that list?

Internet Explorer 5 or later with Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 2000, or Windows XP

To sort the Programs menu, the Documents menu, or the Favorites menu, right-click any item on the menu, and then click Sort by Name.

Steps to Sort the Programs Menu:

  1. Click Windows button 'Start'
  2. Select from list 'All Programs'
  3. Right click on any filename in the list
  4. Select from list 'Sort by Name'

The same steps can be applied to the items in My Documents and Favorites folders.

Internet Explorer 4.x and Windows 98

To restore the default alphabetical order requires using the Registry Editor. Please read the Resolution section of the article KB177482 - Start menu and Favorites menu are not listed in alphabetical order.
